Section 3 Flash Flooding

Little Slough Creek experience massive flooding from these rains. The trail access at Kiowa Road is covered in debris, but trail conditions in the area remain good despite the damaging floodwaters.

Where Section 3 is accessed at Kiowa Road, a wall of water at least 10' above normal buried the low water bridge and adjacent fields. The fast flowing water leveled a corn field to the northeast, scattering cornstalks into overhead limbs. The water also cleared the surface of Kiowa Road of all loose gravel...leaving only the gravel deeply embedded in the clay soils.

Even the sign was underwater for a short while!

Corn stalks piled against the road sign and the old well.

The Kiowa Road low water bridge, after the water level dropped more than five feet.   Check out the corn stalks hanging from the limbs above.

Floodwaters at Kiowa Road low water bridge, long after they crested. Yes, those are corn stalks hanging from the overhead limbs!!!

Some of our dedicated volunteers at work on the trail!!!

10/15: Volunteers Steve, Dave and Lynn assess damage on Section 3 near the low water bridge. Lynn is hiding behind corn stalks wrapped around a tree. The stream is on the right, about 8' below.
