- The Trail Coordinator is responsible
for coordinating and facilitating the work of Trailwatchers and
other volunteers in maintaining Perry Lake Trail. He/she will
provide technical advice on maintenance procedures and redesign
work. Such advice will emphasize safety for both the trail users
and the volunteers who maintain the trial.
- The Trail Coordinator will act as
the liaison between the volunteers and the Corps of Engineers,
keeping the Corps informed about work activities and the condition
of the trail, as reported by Trailwatchers. This will include
providing the Corps with a summarization of the Trailwatcher’s
trimester reports.
- The Trail Coordinator will assist
the Trailwatchers in recruiting volunteers for maintenance work
and in planning outings. He will keep a record of the number of
volunteers, number of volunteer hours by category of volunteer and
the value of KTC and other materials and moneys invested in trail
work and report at least annually on this volunteer
expenditure.
- The Trail Coordinator will plan
training activities which bring together Trailwatchers and other
volunteers and organization leaders who wish to help maintain the
trail. These meetings should be held at least annually.
- In cooperation with Trailwatchers,
other volunteers, and the Corps of Engineers, the Trail
Coordinator will develop and disseminate appropriate standards by
which the trail maintenance work is to be carried out and
evaluated.
- At least annually, the Trail
Coordinator will provide a written report to the Corps of
Engineers. This report should include:
- Total number of volunteers
- Number of volunteer hours in the 3
categories: Trail Coordinator’s hours, Trailwatcher’s hours,
other volunteer’s hours
- Expenditures of moneys and
materials by KTC or other volunteers
- A summary of trail
conditions
- A summary of the year’s
maintenance, promotional and other trail oriented
activities
- Proposals for future activities,
particularly any activities which would need prior
authorization
- This report should be completed on
a federal fiscal year basis, with the report year running from 1
October through 30 September
- Any significant alterations or
redesign will only be done with the prior approval of the Corps of
Engineers.

1)
COMMUNICATIONS: The Trail Coordinator is
responsible for coordinating communications between the volunteers,
the Corps of Engineers and trail users. The coordinator will provide
technical advice on trail maintenance, re-routing, erosion problems,
trail markings, etc. And the Trail Coordinator will insure that
there is adequate communications between other volunteers and
potential work groups concerning work outings, either scheduled or
which need to be scheduled.
a. The Trail Coordinator will
provide the Corps of Engineers reports on volunteer activities,
including numbers of volunteers, hours worked, and break down the
hours worked into categories of the Trail Coordinator,
Trailwatchers, and general volunteers. Also included in the reports
should be records of expenditures of moneys and materials by the
volunteers.
b. The Trail Coordinator will
keep the Kansas Trails Council informed of the status of the trail
and any events concerning the trail that might interest KTC
membership.
c. The Trail Coordinator
will work with the Corps of Engineers in preparing the annual
volunteer meetings and call other volunteer meetings, as
needed.
d. The Trail Coordinator will
work in partnership with the Corps of Engineers in preparing
communications which promote trail use, including updated brochures,
electronic information devices (internet and other high tech
communication resources), signage, and distribution of promotional
materials.

SAFETY: In all activities on the
trail, safety of the volunteers and trail users is of paramount
importance. In doing
and supervising maintenance activities, safety will always be the
highest concern of all involved.
3) SUPERVISION: The Trail Coordinator will
organize, or help organize work teams to maintain the trail.
a. The Trail Coordinator will
provide guidance for new or inexperienced trail
volunteers.
b. Maintenance outings will
generally be led by Trailwatchers assigned to the work areas;
however, the Trail Coordinator will lead outings when Trailwatchers
are unable to participate.
c. The Trail Coordinator
will help recruit new volunteers for trail work and coordinate their
assignments to help insure that the trail is properly maintained in
its whole route.
4) MISCELLANEOUS:
a. No significant
alterations of the trail or rerouting will be accomplished with
prior approval by the Corps of Engineers.
b. All trail changes must
be designed so trail usage stays on public
grounds.
