The 94th Street Foot Bridge
is no more. Installed in July 2003 by Eagle Scout David
Pederson (and other scout volunteers) from Topeka (with material and
help from Westar Energy), the bridge met an early demise when
floodwaters topped it by several feet in the early morning hours on
10/2/05. Currently, the bridge can still be seen about 300'
downstream, wedged against a large sycamore tree.
To the right is the original site for the
bridge. Now, once again, a stream crossing. The original bridge will
be dismantled for material to construct a new bridge about 50'
upstream from the original site. We are currently seeking an
Eagle Scout or group of volunteers to construct a new bridge at this
location.
Two small plank bridges lead up to
the original foot bridge site. These plank bridges survived the
floodwaters.
The intermittent stream that the bridge
spanned drains less than one square mile of fields and
woodlands, illustrating the significance of the downpour and flash
flooding that occurred on 10/1-10/2/05.

10/15: Here's the foot bridge! It's
downstream about 300' and wedged against several large
trees.
